Kimberly Battinelli

After waiting over 10 years to get ABA in my home in Spring Hill, I finally got connected to Blossom ABA therapy and they have fulfilled my request. I'm very happy with both of the RBT's and the BCBA that they have provided. Although it can be extensive, with a lot of hours at home, it's exactly what my special needs son needed and I'm grateful.

Our ABA Therapy Assessment and Treatment Process in Tennessee

Simple steps that guide you towards celebrating milestones

  1. 1

Our process starts with getting to know you and your child, while taking care of the administrative steps necessary to get your insurance plan to approve services. We will be sure to provide you with a clear explanation of what benefits your insurance plan will provide, and what you may have to pay out of pocket.

  2. 2

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will assess your child and write a treatment plan. Once you sign off on the treatment plan, we'll get your insurance plan to approve it and authorize services to begin.

  3. 3

Once services are authorized, we'll introduce you to your Registered Behavior Technician (RBT), who will be responsible for implementing the treatment plan on a daily basis during one-on-one therapy sessions with your child. Your BCBA will supervise you RBT, check in with you regularly, provide parent training, and continually update the treatment plan as your child makes progress and accomplishes new milestones.

The Importance Of Starting Autism Therapy As Soon As Possible

Research shows, and experience validates, that the earlier you begin services, the easier it will be for your child to make progress.

  • Our compassionate and professional ABA therapists work with your child in the comfort of your home. This familiar and convenient setting helps make the therapy experience comfortable, empowering your child to quickly achieve the goals outlined in the treatment plan.

  • We are dedicated to fostering success that extends beyond individual therapy sessions. Our team effectively collaborates with your child's educators to integrate therapy goals and promote skill development during school hours.

  • Our clinicians provide comprehensive diagnostic services using evidence-based assessments to understand your child's unique needs and guide individualized treatment planning.

What is ABA Therapy Anyway?

What is ABA Therapy?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a research-backed therapy that helps children with autism learn essential skills and reduce challenging behaviors. By analyzing how specific behaviors are influenced by the environment, ABA for autism uses targeted techniques to encourage positive changes, making learning a rewarding experience.

Key ABA Techniques We Use

  • Positive Reinforcement

In ABA therapy, rewarding good behavior encourages its repetition. Whether through praise, stickers, or a small treat, positive reinforcement motivates children to engage in the desired behavior more often.

  • Discrete Trial Training (DTT)

This ABA therapy technique breaks tasks into small, manageable steps. Each step is reinforced until the child successfully completes the entire task, which builds confidence and skill.

  • Natural Environment Teaching (NET)

Unlike traditional teaching methods, NET utilizes everyday situations to teach important skills. This ensures that the lessons learned are practical and easily applied in daily life.

ABA in Action

Skills Your Child Can Learn With The Help Of Our Fantastic Professionals

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a research-backed therapy that helps children with autism learn essential skills and reduce challenging behaviors. By analyzing how specific behaviors are influenced by the environment, ABA for autism uses targeted techniques to encourage positive changes, making learning a rewarding experience.

Improving Communication Skills:

In ABA for autism, children learn to communicate their needs by starting with simple gestures or words. For example, a child might first use a picture card to request a snack, and over time, they may transition to saying, "I want a cookie," as they are positively reinforced for communicating effectively.

Managing Frustration with Positive Reinforcement:

One common challenge for children with autism is frustration. Positive reinforcement is used to help manage these emotions. For instance, if a child becomes upset while solving a puzzle, they might be rewarded with praise when they take deep breaths or ask for help instead of having a meltdown.

Teaching Self-Help Skills:

Through ABA therapy techniques like Discrete Trial Training (DTT), children learn self-help skills. A child who struggles with brushing their teeth might first learn to pick up the toothbrush, then apply toothpaste, and gradually complete the entire process independently, with positive reinforcement at each step.

Social Skills Development:

Applied behavior analysis examples in social settings often involve teaching children how to interact with peers. For instance, a therapist might guide a child to share toys or take turns during a game, reinforcing positive interactions with praise or a small reward.

Building Focus and Attention:

Children with autism can also benefit from ABA therapy techniques that help improve focus. A therapist may use a timer to set short intervals of attention, rewarding the child when they stay focused on a task, such as reading or completing a puzzle, for a specified amount of time.

Does My Infant Have Autism?

Early signs of autism can look different for every child, and it's completely normal for parents to have questions—especially when noticing new behaviors or developmental changes. This Q&A section was created to help Tennessee families understand what to look for, what the different autism support levels mean, and when to consider reaching out for an evaluation or ABA support. Our goal is to provide clarity, reassurance, and guidance as you navigate your child's early developmental journey.

What are the early signs of autism in infants?

Early signs of autism in infants can vary, but many parents first notice differences in social interaction and communication. Some common autism early indicators include limited eye contact, not responding to their name, and delayed smiling. Other autistic signs in infants may involve unusual reactions to sounds or textures and repeating certain movements, such as hand flapping or rocking. If you're noticing possible signs of autism in babies, it's helpful to discuss them with a pediatrician and explore an early screening.

Are stimming behaviors normal in young children?

Yes, many children engage in self-stimulatory actions—often called stimming behaviours—such as tapping, bouncing, or waving their hands. For children on the spectrum, stimming can be more frequent and may include hand flapping, spinning objects, or repeating sounds. While stimming itself isn't harmful, it can be a helpful clue when observing early signs of autism in infants or toddlers.

How many levels of autism are there?

According to current diagnostic guidelines, there are three autism levels, each describing the type and amount of support an individual may need. Level 1 involves children who need some support with social skills and flexibility; Level 2 includes those who require substantial support due to more noticeable communication and behavioral differences; and Level 3 describes children who need very substantial support, often with significant communication challenges and more intense repetitive behaviors.

What does Level 2 autism look like?

Level 2 autism describes individuals who require substantial support. Children with level 2 autism may experience challenges with communication, transitions, or flexible thinking. They might use limited words or show more noticeable stimming behaviours. Families may notice that routines are very important and that social interaction feels difficult without guidance.

What is Level 3 autism?

Level 3 autism is the highest support level. Children with level 3 autism often have significant communication challenges and may use very few words or be nonverbal. They may also show more intense repetitive behaviours or sensory sensitivities. ABA therapy can be tailored to help children with level 3 autism build meaningful skills at a pace that's right for them.

What about high-functioning autism?

Some families use the term high-functioning autism to describe children who communicate well or learn quickly but still show signs of autism, such as difficulty with social cues, sensory differences, or anxiety. These children may fall under what many consider level 1 on the autism spectrum. Signs of high functioning autism might not appear in infancy but often become clearer as children begin school or social activities.

Can infants show signs of nonverbal autism?

Nonverbal autism typically refers to older children who do not use spoken language, but some early indicators can appear in infancy—such as limited babbling, reduced gestures, or little response to communication attempts. These signs don't always mean a child will be nonverbal later, but they can be part of the broader picture when evaluating autism in infants.

When should I seek an autism evaluation in Tennessee?

If you notice early signs of autism in infants—such as delayed gestures, limited social engagement, or repetitive movements—it's never too early to request a developmental screening. Tennessee families can start with a pediatrician and then connect with ABA therapy providers who specialize in early intervention. Early support can make a meaningful difference in communication, social skills, and independence.
